NFL SUNDAY RECAP: THE SEASON IS GETTING REAL — AND ASHTON JEANTY JUST GAVE FANTASY MANAGERS A HEART ATTACK

By Lauren Hayes · August 23, 2026

Sunday was supposed to be the quiet end to preseason Week 2.

Instead, we got a 19-16 Titans comeback over Seattle, some legitimate fantasy clues, a couple of injuries worth monitoring — and then Ashton Jeanty happened.

The Raiders running back suffered a frightening-looking right-leg injury during Sunday's practice, appeared unable to put weight on the leg and had to be helped off by trainers. The scene immediately sent fantasy managers into panic mode because Jeanty is expected to be one of the central pieces of Las Vegas' offense.

But here's the important update:

Later Sunday evening, the early reports were considerably more encouraging, with Jeanty reportedly okay after the scare.

That changes the fantasy conversation dramatically.

There is still a medical evaluation to come, so this isn't the time to pretend we know more than the Raiders' doctors. But the immediate fear of a catastrophic injury appears to have eased.

And yes, fantasy managers everywhere can exhale.

TITANS 19, SEAHAWKS 16: THE FINAL SCORE WASN'T THE STORY

Tennessee erased a 13-point deficit and beat Seattle 19-16 on D'Ernest Johnson's 2-yard touchdown run with 5:45 remaining. Joey Slye also drilled four field goals, including a 55-yarder.

But the fantasy information was much more interesting than the final score.

DREW LOCK JUST MADE THE SEATTLE QB ROOM INTERESTING

With Seattle resting its starters, Drew Lock got the start and absolutely took advantage of it.

Lock completed his first 11 passes and led Seattle to points on three consecutive drives. He finished his opening touchdown drive by hitting tight end Elijah Arroyo for a 36-yard touchdown.

That's the type of preseason performance that matters.

Not because Lock suddenly belongs in your fantasy QB rankings.

He doesn't.

But because Seattle now has a backup quarterback who demonstrated that he can efficiently operate the offense when given extended responsibility.

And Elijah Arroyo deserves attention

A 36-yard touchdown is nice.

The way it happened is more important.

Arroyo was involved in a genuine passing-game sequence with Lock and immediately became one of the most noticeable offensive players on the field.

If you're playing deep dynasty leagues, tracking rookie tight ends or simply looking for potential waiver-wire names, Arroyo belongs on the list.

JACARDIA WRIGHT JUST RAN 69 YARDS INTO THE FANTASY CONVERSATION

Seattle's running-back situation is already worth monitoring because first-round rookie Jadarian Price won't play in either of the remaining preseason games while the team manages his upper-leg soreness.

Then Jacardia Wright went and ripped off a 69-yard touchdown run against Tennessee.

That's not a typo.

69 yards.

Wright finished with 80 rushing yards, giving Seattle another name to monitor behind Price and the rest of the running-back group.

This doesn't make Wright a fantasy starter.

It does make him an extremely interesting preseason DFS and deep-roster name if Seattle's backfield situation changes.

---

JALEN MILROE? THAT WASN'T THE NIGHT HE WANTED

The Seahawks' rookie quarterback struggled after entering the game.

Milroe threw two interceptions and had difficulty making decisions under pressure.

That's obviously not ideal.

But the bigger fantasy question remains unchanged:

What does Seattle ultimately want to do with Milroe's skill set?

His rushing ability remains the potential fantasy cheat code.

But the passing development is going to determine whether he becomes something more than a package player or developmental quarterback.

Saturday's performance didn't answer that question.

Sunday didn't either.

CAM WARD AND THE TITANS GOT JUST ENOUGH

Tennessee planned to give its first units meaningful work while Seattle was expected to lean heavily on backups. That imbalance was one of the major betting angles entering the game.

The Titans ultimately won, but the game was far from a runaway.

For fantasy managers, Tennessee's biggest takeaway isn't a sudden breakout.

It's that the coaching staff is still evaluating its young offensive personnel in real-game situations, while Seattle was using the night primarily to evaluate depth.

That's why preseason box scores need context.

NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT ASHTON JEANTY

This is the story fantasy managers actually care about.

During Raiders practice Sunday, Jeanty went down while attempting to make a diving catch.

He landed awkwardly and was unable to put weight on his right leg.

Trainers helped him from the field, and teammates gathered around him as the situation initially looked extremely concerning.

Considering Jeanty's expected workload, the fantasy implications were enormous.

He rushed for 975 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie, while adding 55 receptions, 346 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns.

That's not merely a running back.

That's a potential three-down fantasy centerpiece.

THEN CAME THE BETTER NEWS

Later Sunday evening, reports indicated that Jeanty was okay after the scary practice incident, easing the immediate concern surrounding the injury.

That's obviously good news.

But fantasy managers should separate two things:

Good news: The initial scare did not immediately turn into a confirmed catastrophic injury.

Still important: Jeanty will need to be evaluated, and we shouldn't invent a diagnosis before the Raiders provide one.

For now, the fantasy panic button can come back off the wall.

MIKE WASHINGTON JR. REMAINS THE HANDCUFF TO KNOW

The one thing this incident did reinforce is how important rookie Mike Washington Jr. could become if Jeanty ever misses time.

Washington was already considered a player who could benefit from additional work.

Now every fantasy manager knows exactly why.

If you're drafting Jeanty, Washington is one of the handcuffs worth knowing.

THE BETTING LESSON FROM SUNDAY

Tennessee closed as a favorite because of the expected playing-time advantage.

That advantage mattered.

But the Titans didn't exactly turn the game into a demolition.

The final:

Tennessee 19
Seattle 16

That's another reminder that preseason betting isn't simply about picking the better football team.

It's about predicting:

Who plays?

How long?

With which quarterback?

Against which unit?

That's why preseason lines can move so dramatically between the opening number and kickoff.

And that's also why blindly betting preseason favorites is a great way to donate money to a sportsbook.

WHAT SUNDAY TAUGHT US FOR DFS

There wasn't a giant fantasy eruption Sunday.

There didn't need to be.

The important DFS clues were about opportunity.

Elijah Arroyo

36-yard touchdown.

He's becoming an intriguing deep-value tight end name.

Jacardia Wright

69-yard touchdown.

Explosive ability plus a potentially important Seattle RB situation.

Drew Lock

Perfect opening drive and strong early efficiency.

Not a season-long fantasy target, but meaningful if Seattle gives him another extended preseason opportunity.

Mike Washington Jr.

He didn't need a monster box score.

Jeanty's scare reminded everybody that Washington could become enormously valuable if the Raiders' backfield changes.

---

AND NOW WEEK 2 IS OVER

There are no more Week 2 games.

But the preseason isn't finished.

And now we're heading into the final preseason week, which is where fantasy managers should be paying even closer attention to roster decisions.

The next games begin Thursday.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 27

The first night of Week 3 brings four games.

Steelers at Bills

Patriots at Browns

49ers at Raiders

Rams at Chargers

The game I have circled?

49ERS AT RAIDERS

Obviously.

After the Jeanty scare, Vegas' running-back usage could become one of the biggest fantasy stories of the final preseason week.

If Jeanty sits, Mike Washington Jr.'s workload becomes extremely important to watch.

---

FRIDAY IS ABSOLUTELY LOADED

Friday brings a massive group of games, including:

Commanders at Ravens

Falcons at Dolphins

Texans at Panthers

Giants at Jets

Buccaneers at Jaguars

Cardinals at Packers

Seahawks at Chiefs

Bengals at Eagles

Saints at Cowboys

Vikings at Broncos

That means fantasy managers will have an enormous amount of final roster information coming at them in one night.

And unlike Week 1 and Week 2, we're getting much closer to actual roster decisions.

That's when preseason information becomes considerably more valuable.

THE BIGGEST FANTASY STORYLINES ENTERING WEEK 3

1. ASHTON JEANTY'S STATUS

This is obviously No. 1.

If he's healthy, the fantasy conversation continues exactly where it was.

If he misses time, Washington becomes one of the most important late-round names in fantasy football.

2. THE GIANTS' RUNNING-BACK ROTATION

Singletary, Tracy and Skattebo remain a situation worth watching.

The final preseason game could tell us considerably more about how New York intends to distribute touches.

3. PHILADELPHIA'S BACKUP QB

Tanner McKee's performance Saturday put him firmly in the conversation.

The final preseason game could essentially settle the question.

4. SEATTLE'S RB DEPTH

Price is being protected.

Zach Charbonnet remains unavailable.

That makes players such as Wright and the rest of Seattle's backfield worth monitoring.

5. THE ROOKIE RECEIVERS

Ja'Mori Maclin.

Kyle Williams.

Tai Felton.

These are exactly the kinds of players who can go from “interesting preseason name” to “late-round fantasy pick” in about seven days.

---

THE PRESEASON IS FINALLY STARTING TO GIVE US REAL ANSWERS

Two weeks ago, somebody catching a touchdown in the fourth quarter meant basically nothing.

Now?

It's becoming much more meaningful.

Teams are narrowing rotations.

Coaches are making roster decisions.

Players are fighting for starting jobs, backup jobs and roster spots.

And fantasy managers are finally getting enough evidence to separate the real opportunities from the August mirages.

Sunday's biggest lesson wasn't even a box score.

It was Ashton Jeanty walking away from what initially looked like a nightmare injury situation with encouraging news later in the evening.

That's a massive fantasy development.

And now we enter the final preseason week.

The dress rehearsal is almost here.

The fantasy draft boards are about to get a lot more interesting.
